A Lot of Us Hate Our Jobs.
'Tis the season for family, food and rest (Unless you work in retail or healthcare or - well, most service jobs. Hopefully you get some kind of break.).
It's also the time we tend to reflect - looking back on our year, our accomplishments, and maybe - on how much we can't stand our jobs, boss, co-workers.
66% of Americans report feeling burned out at their jobs (Moodle)
And a 2023 Gallup survey on employee engagement found that only 33% reported being engaged - and 16% being actively disengaged. (Gallup)
It’s not just carrying a workload meant for two or three or the fact that we got a taste of remote work during the pandemic and want to hold onto it. There are multiple factors influencing people to make a shift to something different:
Work-life balance
Limited growth opportunities
Toxic work environments
Concerns about compensation

Abligurition (18th century): Any excessive financial outlay on food and drink, or "a prodigal spending in Belly-Cheer". - “Mmm, yes, this is a lovey abligurition, Winston!”
Ingordigiousness (18th century): Extreme greed at the expense of principles. -”Ugh, the ingordiousness of that man. Shameful.”
Ooftish: A slang term for any kind of money or cash - “Oi there, guvna! Got some ooftish?” (I don’t know why this had to be bad cockney…)
